Dr. Volpe is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Public Health. He teaches the Managed Care course for the EMPH Program and holds an MA and PhD in Experimental Psychology from Northeastern University. Until 2005, he was Vice President of Strategic Initiatives for a large and successful health plan, WellPoint Health, Inc. In that position, he was responsible for developing corporate strategic initiatives with hospitals and hospital systems, physician groups, foundations and academic institutions to improve services and the quality of care to WellPoint's members. Additionally, he was responsible for corporate approaches to e-prescribing and cross-industry health information technology strategies to reduce health plan administrative complexity.


Dr. Volpe is recognized nationally for his contributions to health policy. He has held several positions with the National Governors' Association in Washington DC, including Director and Senior Policy Analyst for Health Legislation. As a major participant in national health conferences, Dr. Volpe has lectured extensively on topics including market-based healthcare, healthcare financing, state-based healthcare reform, national healthcare reform, Medicare and Medicaid, managed care, private health insurance, and state/federal relationships in healthcare policy. Dr. Volpe has also published widely, including both research and technical reports and publications.
