Think Globally: "The World Will See You Now"

One of the most dramatic trends in healthcare has been the rapid pace of globalization across all facets of the industry:

  • The increasingly global networks that are involved in the creation, manufacturing, distribution and regulation of biomedical technologies and pharmaceuticals
  • International labor markets for healthcare workers, and global capital flows for healthcare enterprises
  • Global health threats, from avian flu and HIV infection to bioterrorism
  • Internationalization in the delivery of healthcare services, including the growing phenomenon of medical tourism and the striking advances of healthcare delivery systems in Asia and Latin America.
  • Globalization of the patient base: The world is now in our waiting rooms.

All of these trends represent challenges and opportunities for today's healthcare management and leadership. The EMPH Program at UCLA provides ample opportunities to explore these issues through coursework and field projects.

The Global Health Training Program

The EMPH Program also offers 2nd-year EMPH participants the option to pursue additional Global Health Certification as a participant in the new School of Public Health Global Health Training Program. This program involves additional coursework as well as a mentored international field project. Certification recognizes the recipient's capabilities for working as a public health or health management professional with a global health perspective.
