From the Chair

Welcome to the Health Services community at UCLA. The UCLA School of Public Health is consistently rated as one of the top programs in the Country. Health Services is regarded as one of the strongest departments in the School. Our mission is to advance the health of our communities by improving the management, policy positions, and research capabilities of key institutions in the healthcare industry. Our Executive Education Programs in Healthcare Management and Policy are a key component of our commitment to a strong and dynamic union of academic research, education, training, and the real-world practice of healthcare management.

For more than 45 years, our Health Services alumni have been a testament to this commitment, as they continue to make a difference in both the public and private sectors by assessing critical community health problems, developing sensible policies and organizational strategies for their solution, and assuring the efficiency and effectiveness of services delivered across the full spectrum of the health services.

Our nine graduate degree programs, including the Executive Master of Public Health in Healthcare Management and Policy, continue to prepare future health care leaders with invaluable managerial, policy and research skills through a balance of rigorous curricula and experience-based learning.

Students at UCLA are taught by internationally-recognized faculty comes from a wide range of backgrounds that includes economics, history, law, management, medicine, policy analysis and sociology. The common bond among our faculty is a steadfast commitment to solving problems and developing innovations in the access, cost, and quality of health services from a population-based perspective.

It is this excellent quality of its academic programs, coupled with the principle of public service, that has earned the Department its long-standing reputation as one of the finest in the nation.
